Green Gold Label (GGL) is a voluntary international certification program for sustainable biomass. It was established in 2002 and owned by the Green Gold Label Foundation.


GGL is amongst the earliest biomass certification schemes. It has acquired a unique track record in the certification and tracking and tracing of sustainable biomass.

Certification Process

There are 3 (three) main steps for applicant/participant to obtain the Green Gold Label certification. The 3 (three) main steps are:

  1. Contracting (Agreement)
  2. Main/Initial Evaluation (Audit)
  3. Certification Decision

  • NC (Non-Conformity or Non-Compliance)
  • The deadline for closing the Major NC is a maximum of 3 months from the date of evaluation (audit) closing meeting.
  • The deadline for closing the Minor NC is a maximum of 12 months from the date of evaluation audit (closing meeting). For initial certification, the certificate will be issued and the Minor NC will be verified in the next surveillance evaluation (audit).
  • Observations are not required to be settled prior to issuing a GGL certificate.
  • After obtaining the Green Gold Label certification, the participant has the right to use the GGL Logo or GGL claims by first submitting an application for approval for use of the GGL Logo to PT Qualitas Sertifikasi Indonesia (PT QSI) to be reviewed and approved prior used.
  • After obtaining the Green Gold Label certification for the first time, the annual Surveillance evaluation must be performed to ensure that an organization or system meets the stated standards or criteria over time.

Appendix A. Logo Use Requirements

A1

On product labelling is not permitted.

A2

GGL can only be claimed on products covered by a Transaction Certificate as described in GGLS4.

A3

The registered and copyrighted GGL logo is made available to participants with a valid GGL certificate as shown below.

The GGL logo (above) may be used off product, including on stationery, promotional materials, business cards and brochures.

A5

The GGL logo artwork may be used only in horizontal alignment.

A6

The minimum size for the GGL logo is 12mm in height.

A7

Claim regarding electricity produced from GGL certified biomass are laid down in GGLS6.

A8

Any applied percentages shall reflect the actual percentages of certified material included in a product or batch, in case recycled material is included in GGL certified materials information shall be provided on the percentages and quantities of the included recycled materials.

A9

The GGL logo shall not be used in relation to any GGL controlled claims and statements.

A10

Approval shall be received from the Certification Body for applying any GGL logo’s and claims for promotional purposes. Approvals shall be recorded and retained.

    Yes, applicants for Green Gold Label certification must apply for certification services under the GGLS1 – Chain of Custody Criteria and must be able to meet all applicable requirements through the certification evaluation (audit) process.

    The Green Gold Label certification is valid for up to 5 years.

  • Are there additional fees beyond the certification cost that Green Gold Label certificate holders need to pay?

    Yes, there are additional fees beyond the certification cost, including:

    • Green Gold Label participant fee, which can be referenced here;
    • Fees for issuing Transaction Certificates and/or Product Certificates. These fees apply for 1 (one) Transaction Certificate and/or Product Certificate issued by QSI.
  • Is it possible to adjust the scope (operational units, processes, and products) to my certificate during the certification period?

    Yes, it is possible. QSI will determine whether an additional audit is needed.

  • What reasons could lead to the suspension or withdrawal of Green Gold Label certification?

    QSI complies with certification requirements established by the Green Gold Label Foundation.
