OBP Certification
Standard Overview
OBP Certification is a program that verifies the origin and traceability of Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP), which is plastic waste at risk of entering the ocean.
It ensures OBP is collected and managed responsibly, ethically, and efficiently, with a focus on both commercially recyclable and non-commercially recyclable OBP waste.
Standard Owner
Established in 2019, Zero Plastic Oceans is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to addressing the issue of plastic pollution. The organization was founded upon the realization that a significant portion of plastic waste in the oceans originates from discarded plastic, known as Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP).
Historically, most organizations have concentrated their efforts on collecting OBP that can be resold for recycling, overlooking the bulk of abandoned plastic waste.
